Planning Your Study Abroad TRip
Studying abroad is a requirement to graduate with an IRG degree.* The earlier you start thinking about where, when, and for how long you'd like to go abroad, the better. And the best place to start is here: UT Global, where you can find information about study abroad programs as well as international internships and research opportunities. For language-specific programs and IRG featured programs, scroll down to "IRG" on this page.
* Please note that there are some situations in which study abroad requirements can be waived. Ask your advisor if you think this might apply to you.
“Studying abroad brings your classes and experience at UT into context. Not only do I feel like I think about the nuance and global implication of my studies more after studying in France and Taiwan, but I also feel more content with my life as a whole. The world is very big and seeing more if it makes the little things less stressful and the big things more profound. I could not have gained the same fearlessness and sense of self without spending time outside of my hometown."
- Finlay Scanlon, IS & ANS, Taiwan and France 2019
"I chose to do the IRG semester plus in France because I knew I wanted to study abroad for a full semester and this program included IRG320F. It was great because the summer course is only with other UT students and you really get to know each other before you’re thrown into the foreign institution. I was able to experience a lot more doing a full semester program, and studying at SciencesPo introduced me to the possibility of going abroad for graduate programs too."
Jessie Yin, IPE & ANS, France Semester Plus 2019
